So Giuliani is not a hypocrite?

Carla avoids the H word today, as she uncovers that Giuliani has contributed to Democrats.

Now, Giuliani is trying to get the Republican nomination for president. Gave money to Democrats. To Nancy Pelosi, no less! Would that make him a hypocrite?

Recall, hypocritical, that's what Carla actually called John Edwards on the GOP propaganda outfit Fox News. For pocketing $285,000 in speaking engagement talking about poverty and the two Americas, and only giving back $350,000 to charity. For being rich and yet, still trying to help the poor. How hypocritical.

How did Carla call Giuliani? Well, let's look:

Some Republican insiders said the campaign contributions by Giuliani firm's will have no influence on the former New York City mayor's attempts to appeal to woo conservative and grassroots voters...

"If the donations were in Rudy Giuliani's name, or his wife's name, that would be a problem,....but...[he]'s a partner in a law firm that wants to do business on both sides of the street -- so you give to Republicans and Democrats."

...Indeed, the firm's political donations are controlled entirely by its political committee. Insiders point out that Giuliani is not a member of that committee and makes no decisions related to its political contributions...

Maria Comella, a spokeswoman for Giuliani's campaign, said in an e-mail Tuesday that "the PAC is not representative of the mayor's beliefs," adding that "people donate to Mayor Giuliani based on their belief in his candidacy, not the other way around."

The contributions by the law firm's political action committee now could pose another political challenge as Giuliani seeks Republican support....

"I think any presidential contest is going to involve a lot of scrutiny and the mayor has been a very, very successful individual on a number of different activities," [Giuliani's aid] said. Opponents and the media "will look hard at the mayor's record and occasionally distort it."

People will try hard to distort the mayor's record? (a candidate for the GOP investiture gave money to über-Democrat, San Francisco Nancy Pelosi. How can you distort that? The only thing worse would be giving money to Hillary Clinton!)

I think that's all the quote in the article that comment on the donations of Giuliani. Who is quoted? Three Giuliani people, and one former Pete Wilson speech writer (ie. not a rabid Conservative)? And do you seriously believe that Giuliani has no input on to whom a firm with his name on it gives money to? Giuliani does not need to seat on the board, he appoints the board!

In the Edwards piece, Carla quotes an adviser to a John Edwards opponent in the 2004 presidential primary, "a California Republican media strategist," GOP presidential candidate Mike Huckabee, and a guy who says:

"It's outrageous. He's trying to come off as Mr. Populist and Mr. 'I'm trying to help the poor,' and he charges $55,000 for a speaking fee? That's ridiculous," says Dick Rosengarten, Los Angeles-based publisher of the California Political Week newsletter. "Combined with the haircut, who's in charge of this guy's campaign? What are they thinking?"

I guess we should count herself lucky that Carla is actually bringing the topic out. Someone else will run with it, for sure. But the difference in the deference she shows to Giuliani here, as opposed to the shrillness she displayed wrt to Edwards, is pretty striking.

As her quote guy says: "It's outrageous" What is she thinking?
